Arsenal defeated Club Brugge 3-0 in a key match of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Round 6, thanks to a brace from Maduk and a goal from Martinelli. In a post-match interview, Arteta stated that winning away from home is no easy task, and therefore specifically praised the players' performance, while also expressing his happiness for Brazilian star Jesus' return to the pitch after 11 months.
Martin Zuweimendi passed the ball in the 25th minute, and Maduk received it, broke through the defense, and fired a long-range shot from outside the penalty area to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Martin Zuweimendi chipped a pass from the left wing into the box, where Maduk headed the ball into the net, extending Arsenal's lead to 2-0 against Club Brugge. In the 56th minute, Lewis Skelly passed the ball to Martinelli, who broke through the defense and fired a long-range shot from near the edge of the penalty area, making it 3-0 for Arsenal and further extending their lead.
Arsenal ultimately defeated Club Brugge 3-0 away from home. After securing their sixth consecutive victory, Arsenal currently sits atop the league table with 18 points.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said, "It's a fantastic victory. Winning away in the Champions League is really difficult, so the players deserve high praise. Some players have returned, and it was fantastic to see Maduk and Martinelli score goals like that. The truly special moment was seeing Jesus return to the pitch after a difficult 11-month recovery journey. We are all very happy to see him perform at this level in limited playing time."
“Special praise goes to him and his medical team; this period has been incredibly long and difficult. He has experienced many setbacks in his career, but he has once again proven his love for the game, and we love him just as much.”
In addition, Arteta said, "We have many players injured in the defense, which is indeed a challenge for the team. But it also reflects the players' attitude, such as Nelgaard. His preparation and his desire to play mean that if you let him play for two minutes, or let him play as a center-back for five consecutive games, he will perform as usual."
“This makes the whole team better, and that has to be acknowledged. The opponents are also very tough; they previously beat Monaco and drew with Barcelona in the Champions League. This is never an easy place to play.”
