Napoli released an official announcement on Sunday, confirming the signing of Bologna defender Sam Beckerma. The two sides signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
It is understood that Becker's transfer fee is 31 million euros. He will wear the No. 31 jersey in Naples.
The 26-year-old Becker was born in Deventer, the Netherlands, and made his professional debut in the Dutch second division for his parent club Go Ahead Eagles on September 1, 2017. He then played for Alkmaar for two seasons and joined Bologna for 14.2 million euros in July 2023.
To date, Beckma has made 80 appearances for Bologna, scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists, and won 1 Italian Cup with the team.
After the transfer was completed, Beckmar issued a statement to bid farewell to Bologna. He wrote: "Before the new chapter of my career begins, I feel it is necessary to say a few words to everyone. Saying goodbye is never easy, but I believe that now is the best time to take on new challenges and continue to grow in my career and life. Thank you Bologna Club for giving me the opportunity to take this step at a critical juncture in my career."
“The past two years have been some of the best in my career and in my life. I have a special debt of gratitude to you, the fans: you have fulfilled my dreams and made every moment unforgettable. Your support has always motivated me to give my all.”
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all my teammates, coaches - first Mr Thiago Motta, then Mr Italiano - and all the coaching staff for their support, trust and guidance. And to the professionals who work hard every day behind the scenes: physiotherapists, equipment managers, chefs, thank you for your assistance and professionalism."
"I would also like to thank Bologna's management: Chairman Joey Saputo, CEO Claudio Finucci, Sporting Director Marco Di Vaio and Technical Director Giovanni Sartori, as well as the entire club. You have trusted me from day one and given me the opportunity to grow at Bologna. I sincerely said many times last season that it is a great honor for me to wear the Bologna shirt and interpret its spirit and values."
He concluded: "I had to seize this important opportunity in my career and I hope you will understand my decision. I will always cherish the emotions and memories of this time. I am convinced that Bologna will continue to be successful on the field and make you proud. I wish all my teammates, coaches, management and everyone in this big family all the best in the new season."
