The Boston Celtics confirmed on Sunday via a post on the X platform that Maxim Shulga's two-way contract has been converted to a standard NBA contract. According to multiple reporters, including Shams Charania and Bryan Rob, the two sides signed a two-year, non-guaranteed standard NBA contract for the 2026/27 season.

Brian Rob further pointed out that Shulga will receive approximately $220,000 in rookie minimum salary for the remainder of the season. Since rookie minimum salaries are not affected by the "tax difference adjustment" rule, Shulga's two-way contract, which is now a standard contract, will help alleviate the Celtics' luxury tax burden.

Shulga, 23, is a 6'6" (1.93m) and 95kg (4.5kg) Ukrainian guard who will enter the NBA in 2025 as the 57th overall pick in the second round. He only played one regular season game for the Celtics this season, spending the rest of his time in the Development League.

According to statistics, Shulga has played 23 games for the Maine Celtics so far, averaging 16.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game, with a three-point shooting percentage of 39.9%.

In addition to making Shulga a permanent player, the Celtics have also finalized the return of Charles Bassy. The two sides signed a ten-day contract, valid until March 25th.

The 25-year-old Bassy, selected 53rd overall in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft, has previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs, and Memphis Grizzlies. To date, he has played 116 regular season games, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 62.6% and a three-point percentage of 23.1%.

For the Celtics, the addition of Basz is expected to fill the void in the frontcourt left by Nikola Vucevic's injury. He played three NBA Summer League games for the Celtics last July, averaging 15.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game, with a field goal percentage of 70.4%.
