Ernesto Valverde praised his players' performance after a slow start, but he hoped Athletic Bilbao could convert their advantage into goals more effectively. Girona scored early in the match, making the game more difficult, but they eventually equalized thanks to Mikel Jaureguizar's wonderful strike in the 48th minute.  

After the game, Ernesto Valverde said: "We did have difficulties when the opponent defended deep and compressed the space. We have experienced similar situations in the past. We always want to convert our advantages into goals, but we failed to do so this time. We need to return to the form of last season."  

The head coach made four changes at halftime, hoping to turn the tide. He said: "Usually, changes are made at halftime to shake up the situation and revitalise the team. If we continue like this, we're going to lose. We played very poorly in the first half, no doubt about it. We have to respond. There's still time and opportunity to fight back, but this time it might not be possible."  

"Last year we were the team that conceded the fewest goals, and we did a great job in that regard. Today, although we exposed a lot of problems, we were unable to score any goals. In the second half, our performance improved and we also created chances to win the game, which is the meaning of the game. We worked hard to create threats on the offensive end while staying solid on defense. I know I have high expectations for the players, and this is not easy. Although we ended our goal drought, it is a pity that we failed to score, but we must continue to work hard."
