ESPN: Celtics star Jaylen Brown diagnosed with partial meniscus tear in right knee

Celtics star Jaylen Brown has been diagnosed with a partial meniscus tear in his right knee, ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne reported on Saturday. He will be evaluated this week to determine whether surgery is needed.

Jaylen Brown, 28, is a forward-guard swingman who was selected by the Boston Celtics with the third pick in the first round in June 2016. He shined in the Celtics' championship campaign last year and was named the Finals Most Valuable Player (FMVP) for his outstanding performance.

However, Brown suffered from a knee injury in the second half of the season. According to Ramona Shelburne, he has received several painkiller injections since March and played with the injury in the final stage of the regular season and all playoff games. Even so, Brown still averaged 22.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1 steal per game during the playoffs, with a shooting percentage of 44.1% and a three-point shooting percentage of 33.3%. He also fouled out in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Knicks, and eventually watched the Celtics lose 2-4.

In addition to Brown, the Celtics' star player Jayson Tatum suffered a severe Achilles tendon rupture in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, and Kristaps Porzingis was in poor condition due to illness. In the end, the Celtics ended their title defense this season with a broken lineup.
