Genoa issued a statement on Thursday confirming the dismissal of Patrick Vieira as head coach.
The announcement stated: "The club sincerely thanks Coach Vieira and his team for their dedication and professionalism in their work, and wishes them all the best in their future careers."
The 49-year-old Vieira retired in 2011 and subsequently worked in youth academy at Manchester City. Since 2016, he has managed New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace, and Strasbourg, and will succeed Alberto Gilardino as Genoa manager in November 2024.
After taking over, Vieira led the team to a record of 8 wins, 9 draws, and 9 losses, helping Genoa secure a 13th place finish in Serie A and avoid relegation. However, he failed to maintain last season's momentum this season: Genoa is currently in poor form, having failed to win a single game after 9 rounds. They are currently at the bottom of Serie A with 3 points from 3 draws and 6 losses, and their relegation situation is precarious.
