The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Tuesday that Zach Edy had successful left ankle surgery. He will be reviewed in four months and is expected to make a full recovery.
According to official news, the surgery is aimed at repairing the sprain caused by excessive relaxation of the ligament in Eddie's training last week. This is not the first time Eddie has suffered a left ankle injury. He missed 12 regular season games at the beginning of this season.
Eddie's agent, Mark Bartelstein, also told him that surgery is the best option for Eddie to recover to his best condition: "After discussing with the Grizzlies and several experts, we believe this is the best option for Zach's long-term development and will allow him to recover to 100% without any restrictions."
The Grizzlies said they will update Eddie's injury status in a timely manner based on his recovery progress.
The 23-year-old Zach Eddy mainly plays center and was selected by the Grizzlies with the ninth pick in the first round in June 2024. He played a total of 66 regular season games this season, averaging 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.3 blocks per game, and was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Team.
After entering the playoffs, Eddie played 4 times, averaging 6.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.5 blocks per game. The Grizzlies were eventually swept out by the Oklahoma City Thunder 4-0 in the first round of the Western Conference.
