Guardiola encourages Man City to continue fighting for Champions League qualification

The 33rd round of the 2024/25 Premier League will be staged, and the "Blue Moon" Manchester City will go to Goodison Park to challenge the "Toffees" Everton. Guardiola said that he has enjoyed watching other teams participate in the Champions League recently and encouraged the team to continue fighting for the Champions League qualification.

In this season's Champions League, Manchester City only ranked 22nd in the league stage and was eventually eliminated by Real Madrid in the play-offs and could no longer compete for the championship.

It is worth mentioning that since Arsenal defeated Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, the Premier League has secured at least five places in the Champions League next season.

In the last round of the Premier League, Manchester City defeated Crystal Palace 5-2 with goals from De Bruyne, Malmush, Kovacic, McCarty and Nico O'Reilly, which added more confidence to the team.

Manchester City coach Guardiola said, "I really enjoy watching these games, they are really exciting. The game at Villa Park was great, and so was the game between Dortmund and Barcelona. They were all exciting games. Of course I will miss the Champions League, but I am not a person who complains. No matter whether I experience good times or bad times in life, I will not say much. This is sports. Sometimes when the performance is not good enough, you don't deserve to stay on that stage."

"But hopefully next season we can compete with the best clubs in Europe again and do better than this season, just like we have done in the past seven seasons. Even if we were eliminated, we kept competing and continued to do so. This is a motivation for us and it's not a bad thing to fight for the Champions League qualification."

In addition, after achieving 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in the last 5 rounds, Manchester City is currently ranked 5th in the Premier League standings with 55 points, and the situation for the Champions League qualification is becoming increasingly fierce.

Guardiola said: "If we hadn't done well enough in the past four or five months, we would probably be in a very low position in the Premier League. Outsiders say we are in this position now, but it could be 11th, 12th, 13th or 14th. I have no doubt about it. Our performance is indeed not good enough, but the initiative is still in our hands."

“The game at Goodison Park and then the game against Aston Villa are both very important because there are only six games left and time is running out. We know the journey we have to go through to qualify at the Etihad Stadium and we know the two away games left, and tomorrow against Everton is our first chance.”
