The Indiana Pacers advanced to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive year, defeating the Eastern Conference top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers 114-105 in Game 5 to advance with a total score of 4-1.
Tyrese Haliburton played well, scoring 31 points and delivering 8 assists, becoming the key figure in the Pacers' victory. After the game, coach Rick Carlisle said: "The winner writes the script. This is one of the best teams in the league, and I'm sorry that their season ended in this way. They had a perfect season, and we just played at the critical moment."
As the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Pacers will face the Celtics or the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Currently, the Celtics lead the defending champion Knicks 3-1 and are on the verge of advancing.
It is worth mentioning that in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals, the Pacers were swept by the Celtics. If they meet again now, it will be a battle of revenge.
The Cavaliers ranked first in the Eastern Conference this season and swept the Heat in the first round, but they were unable to cope with the fast-paced Pacers. Although Donovan Mitchell scored a game-high 35 points, he admitted after the game: "We failed to complete the task, that's all."
"We let this city down and we let each other down. I still believe in this team, but in three home games, we didn't play at the level we should have, and that's what hurts the most."
