On August 5th , NBA reporter Marc Stein reported that 28-year-old guard Jeff Dowding will sign a two-year contract with Israeli powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv to compete in the EuroLeague this season. This makes him the latest Philadelphia 76ers player to head overseas for the 2024-25 season. Notably, Stein later added that Dowding is actually the third former 76er to join Maccabi, joining Oshea Brissett and others already on the team.

Dowting spent the past two seasons with Philadelphia. Last season, he appeared in 41 games for the 76ers (including three starts), averaging 7.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. His highlight came in the penultimate game of the season against the Wizards, where he scored a season-high 30 points. He previously played under Nick Nurse in Toronto , and after joining Philadelphia, he was nearing the 50 -game activation limit for players on a two-way contract.

Besides the NBA , Dowding has excelled in the G League, showcasing consistent scoring and playmaking. However, due to NBA regulations, he no longer qualifies for a two-way contract after four years of NBA experience. For a 28 -year-old player, his potential ceiling is already well established. In the current salary cap environment, teams are more inclined to reserve regular roster spots for players with higher potential or immediate production, making it difficult for Dowding to secure a guaranteed contract.
