On September 18, the New York Knicks announced that they had signed young guard Dick Pate to an Exhibit 10 contract. This contract typically provides teams with the opportunity to scout potential players during training camp and leaves room for future development in the Development League.
The 19- year-old Pate, standing 2.01 meters tall and weighing 91 kilograms , played for the Knicks in the Las Vegas Summer League this summer, averaging 9.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. His all-around performance in just 17.6 minutes earned him praise from the coaching staff.
In the 2024-25 season, Pete played for the Mexico City team of the NBA Development League, starting all 34 games and averaging 10.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, demonstrating consistent performance. Earlier, Pete skipped college basketball and graduated from high school a year early to join the Development League's Ignite , becoming the youngest professional player in American basketball history. In his first season with the Ignite , he averaged 8 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game, gradually gaining experience.
The Knicks hope to use this Exhibit 10 contract to further evaluate him during training camp. If he doesn't make the regular season roster, he can also hone his skills in the G League and earn additional incentives through the contract. For the team, this signing is a pragmatic move to add depth, and for Pate, it's an important step in his continued pursuit of proving himself.
