In the 31st round of the 2025/26 La Liga season, Real Madrid, playing at home at the Bernabéu Stadium, drew 1-1 with Girona after Valverde scored the opening goal.

Six minutes into the match, Mbappe received a long pass from his teammate, but Girona goalkeeper Gazzaniga thwarted his shooting opportunity. In the 9th minute, Real Madrid attacked again, with Camavinga passing the ball to Vinicius, whose long-range shot was blocked. In the 14th minute, Girona attempted a counter-attack. In the 42nd minute, Carvajal chipped a pass into the penalty area, Mbappe headed it on, and Vinicius's header went wide. In the 45th minute, Girona created an attacking opportunity; Thomas Lemar passed the ball to Echeverri, whose shot went wide of the post.

Shortly after the start of the second half, Mbappe made a diagonal pass from the penalty area, Bellingham controlled the ball and shot, but the shot was too central and was easily collected by Girona goalkeeper Gazzaniga. In the 51st minute, Brahim Diaz passed the ball across the box, and Valverde, near the edge of the penalty area, fired a long-range shot into the net, giving Real Madrid a 1-0 lead.

In the 54th minute, Valverde crossed the ball, and Mbappe's shot was futile. In the 60th minute, Tsygankov passed the ball to Echeverri, who shot, but the ball went over the goal. In the 62nd minute, Arnaud Martinez passed the ball back to Thomas Lemar, who then fired a long-range shot from the edge of the penalty area to equalize for Girona at 1-1.

In the 76th minute, Valverde tackled an opposing player while dribbling forward, and the referee showed Valverde a yellow card. In the 86th minute, Valverde played a through ball into the penalty area, where Mbappe received the pass, broke through the defense, and shot, but it was blocked by Girona goalkeeper Gazzaniga.

In the 88th minute, Mbappe went down while vying for possession of the ball, but the referee ruled no penalty.

Ultimately, Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Girona.
