Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed ahead of the final round of the Club World Cup group stage that the team will rotate its squad in the crucial match against ES Tunis.
The match will be played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia tomorrow night. As long as Chelsea remain unbeaten, they will secure a spot in the knockout round, while Tunisia will need to beat Chelsea to advance to the round of 16. The former currently has 4 points in the group stage, while the latter has 3 points.
At the pre-match press conference, Maresca said: "We will rotate because some players have played two games in a row and they are too tired. We will also observe whether we can give other players who don't have much playing time a chance."
The temperature in Philadelphia is currently as high as 38 degrees Celsius. The extremely hot weather has also affected the team's training arrangements. Maresca revealed: "It is almost impossible to conduct a full training in such weather. We are trying our best to save our energy for the game."
In addition, Maresca also explained the situation of several players who missed training. Captain Reece James did not participate in today's training due to illness. Levi Colwell also felt unwell in the past two days, but his condition recovered today and participated in some training. Nicholas Jackson will miss this game due to accumulated yellow cards and did not participate in the last training.
Chelsea has won both games and is in high spirits. Maresca vowed to go all out to win the first place in the group. Tunisia is expected to show strong resistance, and the match between the two teams will undoubtedly be a focus battle.
