Enzo Maresca stated that despite Chelsea's defeat to Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener, the team has demonstrated its ability to compete in Europe's top competitions. Chelsea held their own against this experienced away team for much of the match, taking the initiative several times in the opening stages of both halves and displaying impressive form.  

However, Chelsea were at a disadvantage at a crucial moment, as a deflection caused the ball to bounce off Trevoh Chalobah's calf, giving Bayern Munich the chance to open the scoring. Harry Kane then converted a penalty kick to extend the lead.  

Cole Palmer's brilliant individual performance earned the team a point in the first half, but the only goal of the second half came from the opponent, further complicating matters. Although Cole Palmer scored again late in the match, it was disallowed due to a VAR decision, and the team ultimately failed to overcome the two-goal deficit.  

After the game, Enzo Maresca said: "I think we started well in the first 20 minutes, creating two or three clear chances and not conceding any goals. Then we conceded a goal that we could have avoided and the situation of the game changed a bit. But even so, we continued to play and finally scored a goal."  

"We started the second half much better than in the first, but the goal we conceded disrupted our rhythm. Ten minutes after the goal, our form dipped. However, in the final stages, we reorganized our attack and scored again, but it was not recognized due to a penalty."  

"In this game, against this team, you need to stay focused and play for the full 95 minutes. I thought we played well, but we didn't maintain our consistency throughout the game."  

Given the challenge he faced away from home against a strong opposition, Enzo Maresca was pleased with his side's performance in Germany, particularly the way they fought until the final whistle.  

He said: "I am very happy with the team's performance because we knew how difficult it would be to come here and play against this team. We also knew it would be a very challenging game."  

"Again, we kept a clean sheet for the first 20 minutes and created two or three clear-cut chances. Then we conceded a goal and the game changed. Despite that, we held on until the end. It's difficult and unrealistic to come here and keep possession for the whole 95 minutes. Overall, I thought we played very well."
