According to ClutchPoints reporter Brett Siegel, the Miami Heat are interested in trading guard Terry Rozier before training camp begins at the end of this month. Rozier's contract with the Heat runs until 2026, and his annual salary next season is $26.6 million.

The 31-year-old Rozier was the 16th overall pick in the 2015 first round and was traded from the Charlotte Hornets to the Miami Heat in January 2024. However, his performance in the Heat's one and a half seasons fell short of expectations, averaging only 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, while shooting 40.4% from the field and 32.3% from three-point range.

To make matters worse, Rozier was placed under federal investigation in January for alleged involvement in illegal sports betting. According to veteran NBA reporter Chris Haynes, the player has yet to be cleared of suspicion.

Due to both competitive and off-court factors, the Heat's management had long been open to trading Rozier. However, with no interest and the player himself clearly refusing a buyout, the Heat's only way to get rid of Rozier was to cut him.

If that happens, the Heat's Davion Mitchell, Dru Smith, and rookie Kasperas Jakuccionis are expected to see increased playing time, and even if Rozier stays, he's unlikely to hold a significant role in Erik Spoelstra's rotation.
