Lyon officially announced on Friday that Ruben Kluivert has joined from Casa Pia. The two parties signed a five-year contract, which is valid until June 30, 2030.
The 24-year-old Ruben Kluivert mainly plays as a central defender and made his professional debut for Utrecht on May 11, 2022. He joined Dordrecht as a free agent in September 2023, and then moved to Casa Pia for 200,000 euros in July of the following year.
So far, Kluivert has made 24 appearances for Casapia, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist.
According to the transfer details released by the official announcement, the basic fee for this transaction is 3.78 million euros, plus a floating clause of 650,000 euros. Casapia also retains 15% of the secondary transfer share.
The official also confirmed that Kluivert will wear the No. 21 jersey in Lyon.
Talking about the reason for joining Lyon, Kluivert said: "I showed my ability in the game, and the coaching staff and even the club noticed this. It is precisely because they recognized the strength and growth space I showed that they decided to introduce me."
"We had a very positive conversation, focusing on where I could improve in the future. They told me that Lyon was the best place for me to continue to grow and improve, and I believed that."
"For me, Lyon is an ideal club. I can't wait to show myself to the fans without a visa. Although there are offers from other French clubs, Lyon is always my first choice."
Regarding the goal for the new season, Kluivert said: "The most important thing is to get playing time, win the trust of teammates, understand teammates, and help the team win. I believe we can move up the standings, and I will do my best for this."
