Leipzig coach Ole Werner recently talked about striker Werner in an interview and hoped that Werner could change his role and have a different impact on the team.
The 29-year-old Werner was loaned to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in January 2024 and won the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham in the 2024/25 season. At the end of May this year, Werner returned to Leipzig.
However, so far in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, Werner has only played one game for Leipzig.
Leipzig coach Ole Werner said, "The fact is that we have introduced other players in positions where he is capable of playing. These players are already seen as important core players for the team's future. It is true that Werner did not play much in the pre-season and the first half of the season, so there is a certain lag in his form. However, he can definitely change his role through outstanding performances."
"I don't want to judge anyone from the outside. Now that I have met him personally, he is a very pleasant person and is respected by his teammates. He will actively give advice, help his teammates in training and games, and create a good atmosphere in the team."
In addition, Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer said of winger John Bakayoko, "John Bakayoko has great ability in one-on-one situations. He has a strong left foot and can deliver precise crosses as well as finish the ball himself. We hope to see more of his wonderful moments like this in the future."
