On September 28 , the Utah Jazz announced that 32-year-old forward Georges Niang was forced to temporarily rest due to stress reaction of the fourth metatarsal in his left foot. He will undergo further evaluation in two weeks.

Niang is about to enter his 10th NBA season, and the past year has been full of changes for him. He started the 2024-25 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and was then traded to the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline in exchange for De'Andre Hunter.

During his time with the Cavaliers, he averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds , and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 40% from three-point range . After moving to the Hawks, his output improved further, averaging 12.1 points per game, shooting 44.1% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range .

Niang became a trade chip again during the offseason. The Hawks sent him to the Celtics, and Boston then traded him in August to free up salary cap space to sign Chris Boucher.

Ultimately, Niang is part of a roster reshuffle. The team originally expected him to be a solid backup for the young frontcourt players with his stable shooting and rich experience, but now they have to temporarily adjust their plans.
