Fluminense officially announced on Wednesday that it was terminating Thiago Silva's contract six months ahead of schedule.
So far this season, Silva has made 46 appearances for Fluminense. Including his previous record, he has made 185 appearances for Fluminense, scoring 18 goals and providing 5 assists.
Multiple media outlets have confirmed that Silva's contract termination is not in the name of retirement. The 41-year-old plans to return to European competition to maintain his competitive form for the 2026 World Cup.
As a key member of the Brazilian national team, Silva represented the country in four World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018, 2022), four Copa Americas (2011, 2015, 2019, 2021), and two Olympic Games (2008, 2012). During this period, he made 113 appearances for Brazil, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists, and helped the team win the 2019 Copa America title.
However, Silva has not been called up to the national team since the 2022 World Cup. To realize his dream of playing in his fifth World Cup, he sees returning to European football as the only way to rejoin the Brazilian national team.
TEAMtalk further points out that Silva is currently prioritizing London clubs such as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, West Ham United, and Crystal Palace, and has also been in contact with several teams in France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Although there are no formal offers yet, negotiations are in full swing.
