The Portland Trail Blazers officially announced on Saturday that Hans Young has been assigned to the Rip City Mix team in the G League for regular practice. Young will complete practice with the Mix this weekend and then rejoin the team for Monday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Trail Blazers have had a strong start to the season, ranking third in the Western Conference with a 4-2 record after six rounds. Their starting center, Donovan Klingen, is also in excellent form, averaging 6.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 0.5 steals in 20.2 minutes per game.
Yang Hansen, 20, was born in Zibo, Shandong Province, China, and has primarily played center throughout his career. He was selected 16th overall in the first round of the NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers in June of this year. He then played 5 regular season games for the team, averaging 1.8 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks in 5.8 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 22.2% and a free throw percentage of 83.3%.
With Robert Williams III returning from injury and Dupe Reith performing consistently, Young's role in the rotation has further diminished. The Trail Blazers still see potential in Young, but also believe he needs more training time to develop.
In the coming period, Yang Hansen is expected to frequently travel between the Trail Blazers and the Mixed Team. The NBA G League will kick off on November 7th local time, and Yang Hansen is expected to participate in some games with the Mixed Team.
