Bayer Leverkusen announced on Saturday that Malik Tillman has joined from PSV Eindhoven on a five-year contract that will run until June 30, 2030.
According to Dutch media De Telegraaf, the transfer fee for this transaction is about 40 million euros.
The 23-year-old Malik Tillman mainly plays as a front midfielder, but can also play as a left winger, central midfielder, etc. He came from the Bayern Munich youth training and made his debut for the first team in the German Cup on August 25, 2021.
Due to limited playing opportunities, Tillman was loaned out several times before officially joining PSV in July 2024. To date, he has made 73 appearances in PSV, scored 25 goals and provided 19 assists, winning two Eredivisie titles with the team.
As for the national team, although Tillman was born in Nuremberg, Germany, he chose to represent his father's home country, the United States. So far, he has played 25 times for the United States, contributing 3 goals and 3 assists, and won the 2023/24 CONCACAF Nations League championship with the team.
After the transfer was completed, Simon Rolfes, general manager of Leverkusen Sports, said: "We have got another player with outstanding skills and great goal-scoring threat. Malik can play as both a No. 10 and a No. 8 in midfield. For us, he is an absolutely top signing."
"His playing style fits perfectly with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Malik's energy will inject new impetus into our attacking system," Rolfes concluded.
Tillman added: "Leverkusen has always been known for their pleasing football style. They have also made great progress in the past four or five years and have become a team that many European players aspire to play."
"I want to win titles. That was my goal in Glasgow and PSV and it remains the same now in Leverkusen."
