Sevilla announced on Saturday that Chilean international Gabriel Suazo has joined the club on a free transfer. The two sides have signed a three-year contract, which will be valid until June 30, 2028.
Suazo previously played for Toulouse, with the original contract signed until June 2026. Due to failure to reach an agreement on the contract extension, he terminated his contract with Toulouse early this month.
It is understood that Suazo rejected offers from Rennes and River Plate before joining Sevilla. As the second signing of this summer window, his arrival is expected to alleviate Sevilla's shortage of left-backs: since January this year, only Adria Pedrosa has been left in this position.
The 27-year-old Suazo came from the youth training of Colo-Colo and made his debut for the first team in the Chilean Cup on July 19, 2015. He played 219 times for Colo-Colo, scored 10 goals and provided 17 assists, and won three titles each in the Chilean League, the Chilean Cup and the Chilean Super Cup.
In January 2023, Suazo joined Toulouse as a free agent. To date, he has made 97 appearances for Toulouse, contributing 3 goals and 13 assists, and won the French Cup in the 2022/23 season with the team.
As for the national team, Suaso has made his debut for Chile in June 2017 and has made 35 appearances so far, providing 3 assists.
After completing the signing, Suazo greeted Sevilla fans through a video: "Hello, Sevilla fans! I am Gabriel Suazo, and now I have come to my new home and my new team. I am very happy to join Sevilla, and so is my family. I can't wait to put on this beautiful jersey to make my debut and feel the passion of the game with you in our beautiful stadium."
