Marseille released a statement on Wednesday confirming that Argentine central defender Facundo Medina has been loaned from Lens. His loan at Marseille will last until June 2026, and the contract contains a buyout clause.
According to L'Equipe, Medina's buyout fee is 22 million euros. Once the buyout clause takes effect, he will sign with Marseille until June 2031.
The 26-year-old Medina came from the River Plate youth training and made his professional debut for the Railway Factory on August 12, 2018. He transferred to Lens for 3.5 million euros in July 2020. So far, he has made 165 appearances, scored 8 goals and provided 10 assists.
After completing the signing, Medina issued a farewell statement on social media. He wrote: "For a South American player who has never left his homeland, adapting to life in Europe is not easy. Away from the warmth of Argentina and saying goodbye to my close friends and relatives in Buenos Aires, I found a new 'home' in Lens. Although there is little sunshine here, the enthusiasm and generosity of the people make the sunshine everywhere. They give you everything they can and make you feel the warmth of home."
“As for the Boral Stadium and the Lens fans, I can’t even find words to express my gratitude for the love and care they have shown me. I always get teary-eyed when I think back on the emotions we experienced together. These are memories I will always cherish in my heart.”
“Thank you to my teammates, the coaching staff, the club staff and all the fans. It is because of you that I have had an unforgettable and extraordinary five years at Lens. A huge thank you to everyone who made this experience so special.”
According to official news, Medina will wear the No. 32 jersey in Marseille.
