The Utah Jazz released a statement on Saturday confirming that they had signed Kennedy Chandler to a 10-day contract. The news was first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania and subsequently officially confirmed.
The official announcement also confirmed that Chandler will wear jersey number 1 in Utah. He can play a maximum of six regular season games for the Jazz, during which he is expected to receive approximately $117,000 in salary.
Chandler, 23, is a 6'6" (1.80m) and 77kg (37kg) point guard who entered the NBA in 2022 as the 38th overall pick in the second round. After his rookie season with the Memphis Grizzlies, he was waived due to underperformance.
According to ESPN statistics, Chandler played 36 regular season games for the Grizzlies, averaging only 2.2 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 7.8 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 42.2%.
After leaving Memphis, Chandler played for the Brooklyn Nets and the Toronto Raptors in the G League. This season, he plays for the 76ers' affiliate, the Delaware Blue Jackets, and has appeared in 42 games so far, averaging 17.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 1.9 steals in 34.7 minutes per game.
For the Jazz, Chandler is the right replacement for Anderson Garcia. Garcia's 10-day contract expired yesterday. The 25-year-old played 5 games for the Jazz, averaging 5.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks in 33.8 minutes per game.
