Ollie Watkins has been named Aston Villa's Goal of the Month for March. The striker won the award for his brilliant header in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 against Lille.
A monthly poll conducted by the club via its official WhatsApp channel showed that Ollie Watkins was elected with a clear advantage, leading his closest competitor by nearly 3,000 votes.
At the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Aston Villa broke the deadlock just over the 60th minute. Ezri Konsa delivered a long pass, Amy Buendía headed the ball across, and Ollie Watkins leaped high to lob the ball over goalkeeper Berke Özil and into the net.
In the first leg, Aston Villa won 1-0 thanks to this goal. In the second leg at Villa Park, John McGinn and Leon Bailey scored to help Unai Emery's team advance to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 aggregate score.
Ollie Watkins' header ultimately beat Ross Barkley's goal against Manchester United, his own opening goal in the second leg against Lille, and the captain's goal against West Ham United in the Premier League to win the award.
