Bayern Munich announced on Monday that they will part ways with Portuguese international Rafael Guerreiro this summer as his contract expires.
Guerreiro's next destination remains undecided. His latest market value on Transfermarkt is €6 million, and it's rumored that Benfica, Juventus, and several other clubs have already placed him on their transfer shortlists.
The 32-year-old Guerreiro primarily plays as a left-back, but can also play as a left midfielder, central midfielder, and other positions. He came through the Caen youth academy and later played for Lorient and Borussia Dortmund.
During his time at Borussia Dortmund, Guerreiro made 224 appearances across all competitions, contributing 40 goals and 50 assists, and winning two German Cup titles and one German Super Cup. This led him to Bayern Munich's interest, and the two sides ultimately signed a three-year contract in June 2023.
To date, Guerreiro has made 89 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 12 goals and providing 8 assists, winning the Bundesliga title and the German Super Cup with the team. Despite his commendable individual performances, his playing time at Bayern has gradually decreased due to his age and the team's tactical adjustments.
Regarding Guerreiro's departure, Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl said: "We sincerely thank Rafa for the time we spent with us: we could always trust Rafa on the pitch, and he was the kind of player who could make the dressing room atmosphere better. Our communication with him was constructive and based on trust and mutual understanding."
Eberl concluded, "Right now, we will focus together on achieving our goals for the remainder of the season – we still have many goals to achieve together."
