According to ESPN's Shams Charania on Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers are cutting Shake Milton and Jordan Goodwin. Their salaries next season are $3 million (unguaranteed) and 2.3 million euros (only 25,000 guaranteed), respectively. Their departure frees up salary space for the Lakers to sign Marcus Smart.

Charania's report was also confirmed by the Lakers officials not long ago.

Various signs indicate that the Lakers are about to sign a two-year contract with Smart, worth a total of $11 million. Smart just reached a buyout agreement with the Washington Wizards yesterday. He played 15 times for the team last season, averaging 9.3 points, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game, and his three-point shooting percentage of 39.2% set a career high.

Shake Milton

Shake Milton, 28, plays as a guard. He was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the 54th pick in the second round in 2018 and then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. He then moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets, and came to the Lakers as part of the Dorian Finney-Smith trade in December 2024.

Milton has appeared in 359 regular season games since entering the league, averaging 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, shooting 45.1% from the field and 35.8% from three-point range. However, he played a total of 30 regular season games with the Lakers, averaging only 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

Jordan Goodwin

As for Jordan Goodwin, the 26-year-old also plays as a guard. Goodwin played for Saint Louis University in the NCAA Division I league during college. After failing to be selected for the NBA in 2021, he joined the Washington Wizards G League affiliate Capital Go-Go. He then played for the Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers, playing a total of 140 regular season games, averaging 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

So far, Goodwin has played for the Lakers for three seasons. During this period, he played 29 regular season games for the Lakers, averaging 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 43.8% and a three-point shooting percentage of 38.2%.

In the playoffs, Goodwin played a total of four times, averaging 0.8 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game, while his shooting percentage dropped to 20.0%.
