Stuttgart's Germany international striker Nick Woltemade is close to joining Newcastle United for a record-breaking transfer fee..

Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported Thursday that Stuttgart's Germany international striker Nick Woltemade is close to joining Newcastle United for a record-breaking transfer fee.

Romano reported that Newcastle United has agreed to pay Stuttgart a €75 million transfer fee to sign Woltemade, not including an additional €10 million in add-ons, bringing the total to €85 million.

This fee would surpass the previous record of €60 million paid by the Magpies to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad, becoming Newcastle United's highest transfer fee record in history.

Woltemade has already agreed personal terms with Newcastle United and is expected to arrive at the Tyneside-based new Premier League giants this weekend for a medical and to complete his signing procedures.

With the transfer nearing completion, Romano revealed that Newcastle United might change their minds and finally agreed to allow Isak, who had gone on strike and the club had previously refused to sell, to transfer to Liverpool.

If the Magpies soften their stance, the Reds are ready to submit a bid higher than their previous £120 million to sign the Sween international striker before the end of the summer transfer window.

Romano also added that Bayern Munich had previously submitted a €35 million bid for Woltemade and was even willing to increase it, but Stuttgart refused to accept Die Roten's offer, thus scuppering possibility of the transfer.

After completing Woltemade's transfer, Newcastle United is expected to make a full-scale pursuit of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa.
