Swansea City officially announced on Monday that 39-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has become one of the club's shareholders from today.
Fabrizio Romano said the investment would not affect Modric's career. His contract with Real Madrid was due to expire this summer, but he still hopes to continue playing for it.
Swansea City is currently playing in the Championship and ranks 12th with 15 wins, 9 draws and 18 losses, accumulating 54 points. The club warmly welcomes Modric and believes that his arrival will help enhance the club's global influence and achievements on and off the court.
"I am very pleased that Luca has joined the club as an investor and co-owner," said Swansea City CEO Tom Gorringe. "He will be a great role model for the players from the Academy to the first team. His recognition and support of our ambitions will play a key role as we continue to improve our performance on and off the pitch."
“In our interactions he has demonstrated his passion for the club, his in-depth knowledge of our performance and his genuine desire to help us improve. I very much look forward to working closely with him to drive the club forward.”
Swansea City's board of directors later issued a joint statement saying, "We are very pleased that Luca has joined our shareholder group. From the initial discussions, we clearly felt the alignment of our vision. Luca will be a real asset to our group. We thank Luca and his team for their support during this process and look forward to him coming to Swansea Stadium to meet everyone as soon as possible.
Modric said: "This is an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a distinctive team style, a good fan base, and the ambition to compete on a higher stage. I have accumulated a lot of experience in the top league and I believe I can help the club. My goal is to promote the development of the club in a positive way and create an exciting future together."
