According to ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday, Daniel Gafford plans to renew a three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks worth nearly $60 million. The current contract between the two sides is about to enter the final year.

NBA veteran reporter Mark Stein further pointed out that the actual amount of the contract is $54 million. If nothing unexpected happens, Gafford will receive an annual salary of about $14 million in the 2025/26 season.

The 26-year-old Gafford mainly plays center and was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 38th pick in the second round in 2019. He was traded to the Washington Wizards after playing for the Bulls for two years, and has become an important part of the Mavericks' center rotation since February 2024.

The Mavericks experienced a turbulent season last season after Luka Doncic was traded to the Lakers, and several main players such as Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis were also hit by injuries. However, Gafford performed steadily during this period, averaging 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.8 blocks per game, with a shooting percentage of 70.2%.

On the defensive end, Gafford also played a key role - among players who interfered with opponents' shots more than 800 times, his defensive efficiency ranked in the top ten in the league.

Despite this, the Mavericks finished tenth in the Western Conference with a record of 39 wins and 43 losses at the end of the regular season, and eventually lost to the Grizzlies in the play-in game and missed the playoffs.
