In the last pre-season friendly, Tottenham lost 0-4 to Bayern Munich. Coach Thomas Frank admitted that the team's poor form and the opponent's high level of performance formed a bad combination, which led to the defeat.
After the game, Frank was interviewed and said: "Bayern Munich is a strong contender for the Champions League this season. They played to their due level, but we failed to do so. This is a bad combination."
"We will learn from this. We seemed to lack some energy tonight, which is essential for any team. We will reflect calmly and analyze carefully after the game."
Despite the disappointing result, Frank stressed that it was just a setback in an overall positive pre-season: "Overall, it's been positive from the first game to now. Even though today's performance and result were not good, we also had many bright spots."
“We had a great performance against Arsenal and a lot to take away from the Newcastle game. Now it’s all about building consistency into the team and the principles we want to instill in the players. It will take time to get to that level of consistency but I’m confident we will get there.”
The defeat was Tottenham's first of the summer, and Frank turned his attention to the upcoming UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain in Udine.
Frank revealed that the team will conduct three to four high-quality training sessions in the next six days, and use the first normal one-week pre-match cycle to reduce travel, restore physical fitness, and face Paris Saint-Germain in the best condition.
