According to an exclusive report by Luke Edwards of The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock in the winter transfer window.
Willock, 26, came through Arsenal's youth academy and joined Newcastle United on a loan-to-buy deal in February 2021. To date, he has made 151 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 18 goals and providing 9 assists, and has won one English League Cup with the team.
However, Willock has been plagued by injuries over the past year and a half, gradually losing his starting position. Now, he is behind Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimarães, Joelinton, Jacob Ramsey, and even 19-year-old Lewis Miley in the Newcastle United pecking order.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United have shown strong interest in AZ Alkmaar's midfield prodigy Keith Schmidt and hope to finalize the transfer in January. Schmidt is open to joining Newcastle, but believes the deal must meet two conditions: the club must provide him with consistent first-team playing time and have the financial resources to complete the transaction in January.
Considering Willock's current situation and Newcastle's transfer intentions, Crystal Palace believes they have a chance to sign him for a low price in the winter transfer window. However, Willock's transfer fee is expected to be at least £21 million, similar to the transfer fee Newcastle United paid years ago.
