Veteran defender Ben Mee to leave Brentford at the end of the season when his after his contract expires..


Brentford announced on its official website on Sunday that veteran English defender Ben Mee will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.


According to Brentford's official statement, everyone at the club are very grateful for Mee's contribution over the past three years and wish him the best in the future. Mee's leadership and influence on and off the pitch will be remembered forever.


After the news of his departure was confirmed, Mee, who was interviewed by Brentford's official website again, said: "Sunday's game against Fulham will be my last game at the Gtech Community Stadium."


"I want to thank the Bees fans for their great support over the past three years. It really means a lot."


"This is a unique club full of excellent players. I am proud and grateful to play here."


"I still have a lot to give and I will definitely continue to work hard next season and sometime later."

About Ben Mee


Mee, 35, was born in Sale, England, on September 23, 1989. He is 1.8 meters tall. He primarily plays a center back and can also play as a left back.


Mee joined Manchester City's youth academy since he was a child. During which, he won the FA Youth Cup with the club. In the summer of 2010, he was promoted to Manchester City's first team. In January of the following year, he was loaned-out to Leicester City and completed his Leicester City first-team debut in the same month. 


In July 2011, Mee was loaned-out to Burnley. Later, due to his outstanding performances, the Clarets bought out the ownership rights in advance for £60,000 in January of the following year.


During his 11-year spell at Burnley, Mee won the EFL Championship once with the club, and was known as the backbone of the Clarets' defense with his outstanding performances along with his former teammate James Tarkowski.


In the summer of 2022, after Burnley was relegated, Mee moved to Brentford as a free agent.


Since becoming a member of the Bees, Mee has played 67 times for the Premier League club in all competitions, scoring 5 goals and assisting 2 times.
