In the first leg of the 2024-25 Europa League quarter-finals, Manchester United challenged Lyon away and was tied 2-2. Coach Ruben Amorim promised to do his best to win the next round.

Manchester United was leading 2-1, but in the final injury time, Mathis Rayan Cherki scored to help Lyon tie the score. In the press conference after the game, Amorim looked back on the game and said: "Of course we are very disappointed."

"We should have taken the one-goal lead home, but we still have the second leg and we will do our best to win the game at home. We have to focus on the next game now, first the league and then the second leg against Lyon."

"I think we played well. In the first half, especially at the beginning, we had some difficulties in pressing because the opponent played differently. But in the second half we gradually adapted and took control of the game. We created a lot of threats near the opponent's penalty area. I think the performance was okay, but it can be better."

The second leg will be played at Manchester United's home ground on April 18. Amorim believes that the next game will be a tough one, saying: "We know that Lyon likes to create combinations in front of the penalty area and then take advantage of the space behind them."

“We know we have to study the game carefully and try to do better in the second leg. We will play at home and the fans will expect us to press high throughout the game, but we have to be smart and play not only with our heart but also with our brain. We will do that in the second leg.”
