Lyon officially announced on Tuesday that Alfonso Moreira has joined from Sporting CP. Both parties signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2029.
According to L'Equipe and other French media, the transfer fee is 2 million euros. Sporting CP will also retain 20% of the player's secondary transfer share.
The 20-year-old Alfonso Moreira was born in Lamego, Portugal, and mainly plays as a left winger. He joined Sporting CP's youth training in 2017 and made his first-team debut in the Portuguese Super League on August 12, 2023.
To date, Moreira has only played 6 times for Sporting CP, winning 2 Portuguese Super League titles and 1 Portuguese Cup. He was also loaned to Gil Vicente for half a season, during which he played a total of 5 times.
After completing the transfer, Moreira said: "I am very happy to come to Lyon. I am a humble person and I value family very much. I always focus on the goal, it is very important to me. I have clear goals and plans and I am eager to achieve them. I will always do my best and play the best of myself."
When asked about his knowledge of Lyon, he said: "I don't know much about the city of Lyon. Some people told me that Lyon is one of the most beautiful cities in France, and I am looking forward to exploring it myself. As for Lyon, it enjoys a high reputation both at home and abroad, so there is no need to say more."
As for why he chose Lyon, Moreira said: "I had the honor of communicating with Mr. Paulo Fonseca. I have great respect for him. He played a key role in my joining Lyon and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him. He can fully trust me: I will do my best for the team."
