According to NBA veteran reporter Marc Stein on Tuesday, former Nuggets point guard Russell Westbrook is not considering playing in overseas leagues for the time being.

With less than two weeks until the start of the 2025-26 NBA season, Westbrook has yet to find a new team. He officially became an unrestricted free agent on June 30, but the only team currently showing interest in signing him is the Sacramento Kings.

There has been widespread speculation that Westbrook might choose to play overseas, but Marc Stein explicitly denied the rumors in his latest column . He wrote: "There has been no discussion so far regarding whether Westbrook would consider playing overseas this season. If he were willing to consider it, he would naturally receive a large number of overseas offers, but from what I understand, Westbrook and his team are currently focused on securing their next NBA contract, even if that means options may not be finalized until after the 2025-26 regular season begins on October 21st."

Westbrook, 36, was the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Denver Nuggets throughout his career. To date, he has played 1,237 regular-season games, averaging 21.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He has been selected to the All-Star team nine times, the All-NBA team twice, and has been named the 2017 MVP.

While Westbrook is no longer in his prime, he still has the ability to contribute to any NBA team: Last season, Westbrook played 75 games for the Denver Nuggets, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, helping the team to a 50-32 record and fourth place in the Western Conference. In the playoffs, he averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, but the Nuggets were ultimately eliminated by the Thunder 3-4 in the Western Conference semifinals.
