Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is currently in an induced coma in hospital following emergency abdominal surgery.
The 27-year-old Nigerian striker's condition is reportedly not life-threatening and the induced coma is intended to limit his body movement and help regulate his heart rate.
Awoniyi suffered a ruptured intestine after a violent collision with the goalpost during the 2-2 draw with Leicester City last Sunday. He underwent lengthy treatment for the injury and tried to continue playing despite obvious discomfort, before his condition deteriorated dramatically.
After further examination by the Forest medical team, he was rushed to hospital on Monday evening and underwent abdominal surgery on Tuesday. The club said Awoniyi's recovery from the surgery was "currently going well".
