After Wolves defeated Premier League powerhouse Liverpool 2-1, Wolves manager Robert Edwards highly praised the team's recent spirit.
In an interview, Edwards did not attribute the victory against Liverpool solely to tactical arrangements or luck, but focused entirely on the team's unprecedented level of cohesion and their indomitable fighting spirit in the face of strong opponents.
When discussing team cohesion, Edwards pointed out that the team's transformation stemmed from long-term hard work and unconditional mutual trust. Edwards admitted, "The fighting spirit and effort the lads are showing now are worlds apart from when we first took over the team."
Despite Wolves' relatively thin first-team squad, the atmosphere in the dressing room is exceptionally united. Everyone is closely connected, and even the young players who haven't received the expected playing time have fully integrated into the group and are giving their all in daily training.
Edwards proudly stated, "We have a close-knit team where everyone is giving their all for their teammates. We have proven to the outside world that this team is not as fragile as people imagine."
Besides their unbreakable internal unity, Edwards was also pleased with the team's fighting spirit when facing strong opponents. He admitted that matches against teams with superior overall strength, such as Liverpool or Aston Villa, were always exceptionally difficult, and the team often couldn't play the tactical style he envisioned.
“We do have to struggle to find ways to win in adversity,” Edwards said frankly. “But what I really value is the character the team shows when things are tough. We know that the top teams are ahead of us, but the resilience and fighting spirit that my players show on the court is exactly the core quality I’ve always wanted this team to have.”
