Young Liverpool defender Owen Beck potentially ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a severe hamstring injury..

The Liverpool Echo reported on Thursday that Liverpool's former England U21 international defender Owen Beck, who suffered a severe hamstring injury while on-loan at Derby County, is expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season.

According to the report, Beck, who had been sidelined with injuries for three months since the summer, finally returned to play for his loan club, Derby County's U21s team, but unfortunately had to be substituted due to severe pain in his hamstring area.

After a scan by Derby County's medical staff, Beck was confirmed to have suffered a serious hamstring injury which required surgery, and is expected to be ruled out for at least four months, meaning his season is almost certainly over.

Liverpool have recalled Beck and scheduled him to undergo surgery. Unless miracle happens, the player will not be able to play again this season.

Even if he recovers in time before the end of the season, Beck is expected to only be able to represent the Reds' U21s team as an over-age player.

The devastating news of Beck's serious injury is another blow to Liverpool, who have been plagued by injuries recently.

Even worse, this match was Beck's first appearance of the season and his debut for Derby County, which effectively became his only appearance for the Rams during his loan spell.

As one of the graduates who have came through the youth academy towards the end of Jürgen Klopp's tenure, Liverpool had high hopes for Beck.

Before Milos Kerkez's arrival this summer, the youngster was considered the future successor to the team's left wing-back position.

However, unfortunately, since Arne Slot took over, Beck's development has been severely hampered by intermittent injuries.

Even with his Greece international teammate Kostas Tsimikas being loaned-out to Roma this summer, he failed to seize the opportunity to showcase his abilities.

With his recurring injury problems persisting, Beck may not be able to secure a regular place in the first-team even with vice-captain Andy Robertson potentially leaving after his contract expires next summer.

This season, Liverpool's first-team has already been plagued by long-term injuries to Giovanni Leoni, Jayden Danns, Trey Nyoni, Stefan Bajčetić, and record signing Alexander Isak.

Furthermore, Jeremie Frimpong, who has been criticized for his defensive shortcomings since joining this summer, is still not fully recovered, all of which exacerbates Liverpool's defensive woes since the start of the season.

Fortunately, first-choice goalkeeper Alisson is only just beginning his near-full recovery and is expected to return as a substitute in this matchday's fixture against Nottingham Forest.

About Owen Beck

Beck, 23, was born on August 9, 2002, in Wrexham, Wales. He is 1.77 meters tall and primarily plays as a left-wing back, but can also play as a left midfielder. His uncle is legendary former Liverpool and Welsh international striker Ian Rush MBE.

Beck played for the youth academies of Flint Town United, Tranmere Rovers, and Stoke City as a child. At the age of 13, he joined Liverpool's renowned Kirkby Academy, where he was awarded the Best Youth Player Award by his uncle and completed his Liverpool first-team debut in the Carabao Cup match against Preston North End in October 2021.

That same year, Beck also won the Lancashire Senior Cup with the U23s team.

From the summer of 2022, Beck was loaned-out to Famalicao and then Bolton Wanderers, but his appearances were infrequent.

In July of the following year, Beck was loaned-out to Dundee United, where he impressed in the first half of the season and became one of the Scottish Premiership's best players.

In January 2024, Beck was temporarily recalled due to injury issues at Liverpool, and completed his Premier League debut by coming on as a substitute in the Premier League match against Bournemouth that same month.

On January 30 of the same year, Beck was loaned back to Dundee United.

During this spell, Beck continued his outstanding performances and was selected into the Scottish Premiership Team of the Year after the end of the season.

In August 2024, Beck joined Blackburn Rovers on-loan.

Last season, Beck played 25 times for the EFL Championship club in all competitions and scored 1 goal.
