According to a recent report by Sky Sports Germany, the possibility of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner transferring in the winter transfer window continues to rise. He currently sees Major League Soccer (MLS) as his next destination, and related negotiations are underway.
The report further indicates that RB Leipzig is open to a transfer for Werner. Werner's current contract with Leipzig expires in June 2026, with a pre-tax annual salary of approximately €10 million to €11 million.
The 29-year-old Werner came through the Stuttgart youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team on August 1, 2013, in a Europa League qualifier. He subsequently made 103 appearances for Stuttgart, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists.
In June 2016, Werner transferred to RB Leipzig for €23 million. He developed into an excellent striker at RB Leipzig and joined Chelsea in July 2020 for €53 million. During his time at Chelsea, Werner made 89 appearances, contributing 23 goals and 21 assists, and won one Champions League, one Club World Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup with the team.
Due to inconsistent form, Werner's tactical role at Chelsea gradually diminished. He subsequently returned to RB Leipzig in August 2022, but his form has yet to noticeably improve. Statistically, Werner has made 214 appearances for RB Leipzig to date, scoring 113 goals and providing 47 assists, winning both the German Cup and the German Super Cup with the team.
Despite this, several MLS clubs remain interested in Werner. RB Leipzig's asking price for Werner is reportedly only a few hundred thousand euros, while Transfermarkt shows his market value at around 5 million euros.
