Burnley issued a statement on Tuesday announcing the permanent signing of Sporting Lisbon's on-loan right winger Marcus Edwards. Both parties signed a four-year contract valid until June 30, 2029.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the buyout fee is 12 million euros. Sporting Lisbon will also retain 10% of Edwards' future resale share.

Edwards, 26, came from Tottenham Hotspur's youth training and made his first-team debut in the English League Cup as early as September 2016. He then moved to Norwich City, SBV Elite and Guimarães, and moved to Sporting Lisbon for 7.75 million euros in January 2022.

In three seasons at Sporting Lisbon, Edwards made 120 appearances, scored 24 goals and provided 26 assists, winning two Portuguese Super League titles and a Portuguese Cup with the team. He joined Burnley on loan in January this year and has contributed 2 goals and 1 assist in 16 games so far, playing an important role in the team's return to the Premier League. As Burnley secures a place in the Premier League next season, the mandatory buyout clause in his contract automatically takes effect.

After completing the transfer, Edwards said: "When you join a new team, you have to prove yourself again and show your strength. This is what I have been trying to do from the first minute."
