Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal could face a UEFA ban following his clash in midfield against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final.
According to Marca, in the second round of the Champions League match at the Bernabeu, Dani Carvajal had a violent conflict with Arsenal star Bukayo Saka in the halftime despite being absent due to injury. This behavior has violated the relevant UEFA regulations and is very likely to lead to his additional suspension.
In the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal beat Real Madrid 3-0, laying a solid foundation for promotion. In the second leg at the Bernabeu, Arsenal got a penalty kick early. Raul Asensio pulled down Mikel Merino in the corner kick defense, and the referee decisively pointed to the penalty spot. Saka tried to humiliate the opponent with a "spoon penalty", but was calmly saved by Real Madrid goalkeeper Courtois.
According to the live footage, Carvajal was quite dissatisfied with Saka's "playful tricks". Although he did not play in the game, after the half-time whistle, he found Saka in the passage leading to the locker room. The two had a heated exchange of words, and then Carvajal seemed to grab the other party. Fortunately, with the intervention of other players and staff, the situation was quickly calmed down.
It is worth mentioning that Carvajal is still recovering from a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in the match against Villarreal last October. His original goal was to return before the Club World Cup in June. This off-field conflict not only caused controversy, but also because he should not have been near the technical area, he violated UEFA's disciplinary clauses and faced the risk of additional punishment.
If convicted, the experienced defender may miss several key Champions League games in the future, and his comeback in the Club World Cup may also be affected.
