West Ham United midfielder Andy Owen made his long-awaited international debut as Scotland beat Liechtenstein 4-0 in a friendly.

The 25-year-old midfielder came off the bench and was joined by childhood friend Josh Doig, with Owen describing the day as "perfect" and expressing hope that this was just the beginning of his international career.

After the game, Owen was interviewed and said: "I am very happy to play for Scotland. From the time I came on the court to the end of the game, the feeling was incomparable. This not only makes me proud, but also makes my family extremely proud. I hope this is just the first hat, and there will be more to come."

"It has been my dream since I was a kid to play for the national team . It is so exciting to be able to realize this dream. My goal is to play as many games as possible for Scotland and I will do my best."

What is more meaningful is that Owen and Doig appeared on the court almost at the same time. This pair of childhood friends in Edinburgh primary school and high school now stand together on the national team stage, which became the most touching scene of the game.

Owen recalled: "It was incredible to play alongside Doig. We have been friends since primary school and our dads played together at Edinburgh City. It was really special to be able to play alongside him in such an important moment."

In the 2024-25 season, Owen made his debut for West Ham United, making ten Premier League appearances. He also became the seventh player in West Ham's history to represent the Scottish national team. Owen's national team debut was solid, showing good ball control, which laid a good foundation for his upcoming national team journey.
