Hoffenheim issued a statement on Thursday announcing the signing of 21-year-old Basel midfielder Leon Avdallah. As usual, the club did not disclose the length and specific details of the contract.
Leon Avdullah was born in Solothurn, Switzerland in 2004 and joined Basel's youth training system at the age of 14. He made his professional debut for Basel on August 13, 2023. So far, he has made 71 appearances, scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist, and won the Swiss Super League and Swiss Cup with the team.
As Avdullah's contract with Basel was originally scheduled to expire in 2028, Hoffenheim paid him 8 million euros plus a floating transfer fee of 1.5 million euros. According to official news, Avdullah will wear the No. 7 jersey in the new season.
After completing the signing, Hoffenheim sports director Andreas Schickel said: "Leon is only 21 years old and has become Basel's absolute main force in the defensive midfielder position. He is a player with strategic thinking, aggressiveness and excellent confrontation ability, as well as good vision and solid technical skills."
"We know that Leon had several options this summer. Therefore, we are honored that he finally chose Hoffenheim as the next stop in his career and is willing to move forward with the club."
Avdullah said: "I am very proud to be a member of Hoffenheim. The communication with the club's management was very pleasant, which allowed me to make the decision to join quickly. Hoffenheim has an ideal development environment, allowing me to continue to improve myself and win with the club. I can't wait to meet my new teammates and go all out on the court."
