The Dallas Mavericks will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in a preseason game, and Klay Thompson said he hopes to be a role model for young players and show them what it takes to compete for a championship.
In the 2024/25 NBA regular season, the 35-year-old Klay Thompson played 72 games for the Dallas Mavericks, shooting 41.2% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range.
It is worth mentioning that Klay Thompson won four NBA championships during his time with the Golden State Warriors.
Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Klay Thompson said, "I still watch the 2011 championship documentary very often. I remember that journey very vividly. They may not have been the most talented team in that playoffs, but they truly embodied what a team is."
"They're a great team, and we can do the same thing. But it's going to take an unprecedented level of championship determination and a relentless drive."
Klay Thompson also said, "Everyone on that team knows their role. They know who is the finisher in the critical moment and where they can play the best role. This inspired me deeply and is what I want to experience. I want to feel that atmosphere again."
Talking about the upcoming season, Klay Thompson shared, "It's very exciting and an opportunity to add a new chapter to my legacy. I think everyone will see a veteran leader, a shooter and a versatile defender, and someone who loves basketball more than anything else. I want to make the Dallas fans proud of me."
"I want to lead the team with my words and actions, share my experience, and let the young players know what it means to compete for a championship. It's a difficult task, but it's definitely worth it."
