AC Milan officially announced on Tuesday that they have terminated the contract of Belgian striker Divock Origi six months ahead of schedule. Origi's future destination is currently unknown.
The 30-year-old Origi has struggled since joining AC Milan on a free transfer in July 2022, contributing only 2 goals and 1 assist in 36 appearances. Milan subsequently loaned Origi to Nottingham Forest for a season, but his form has yet to improve.
In July 2024, Origi was relegated to the reserve team by Milan. Milan's move was clearly aimed at accelerating Origi's departure by marginalizing him, thereby alleviating the club's annual after-tax salary burden of 4 million euros.
From that point on, Origi never played for Milan's first team again. He also stopped training with the reserve team and instead maintained his fitness with the help of a private coach.
In stark contrast to his lackluster performance at AC Milan, Origi was one of the key figures in Liverpool's glorious era. Since joining the club in 2014 for £10 million, he has made 175 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 41 goals and providing 17 assists, winning one each in the Champions League, Club World Cup, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, and League Cup.
Earlier in his career, Origi played for Lille. According to Transfermarkt, he made 89 appearances for Lille, scoring 16 goals and providing 5 assists.
