Freiburg announced on Wednesday that Croatian center Igor Matanovic has transferred from Frankfurt to the club. According to Sky Sports Germany, the two sides signed a contract until June 30, 2029.

Kicker, a German football magazine, added that Matanovic's fixed transfer fee is about 6.7 million euros. If the floating clause is included, the total transaction amount can reach up to 8.7 million euros. Frankfurt will also receive a certain percentage of the secondary transfer.

The 22-year-old Matanovic was born in Hamburg, Germany, and both his parents are Croatian. He came from the youth training of St. Pauli and made his debut for the first team in the German second division on November 27, 2020.

In August 2021, Matanovic joined Frankfurt from St. Pauli for 500,000 euros. He was then loaned to St. Pauli and Karlsruhe to gain experience, until August 2024 when he got a stable chance to play in Frankfurt. To date, Matanovic has played 25 times for Frankfurt, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist.

Regarding the joining of Tanovic, Freiburg sports director Jochen Sell commented: "Igor's qualities are exciting. He is focused, physically fit, and has a great scoring threat. In addition, he has a good attitude and is willing to do his best for the team. We have proved in the past that as long as we work together and remain patient, we can promote the continuous improvement of players and fully unleash their huge potential."

According to official news, Matanovic will wear the No. 31 jersey in Freiburg.
