Despite leading the team to win the Europa League and ending Tottenham's 17-year championship drought, coach Angel Postecoglou still could not escape the fate of being fired. Tottenham officially announced that he had been relieved of his position as head coach.

The glory of European wars cannot cover up the bleakness in the Premier League. Tottenham suffered the worst Premier League record in team history in the 2024-25 season, ranking 17th with 38 points and almost being relegated. They suffered a total of 22 defeats throughout the year, setting a new record for the team's single-season losses.

The Tottenham board said in a statement that although he brought "historic glory" to the club and became the third coach to win the European Cup after legendary coaches Bill Nicholson and Keith Birkinshaw, they "cannot let emotions sway their judgment" and the decision to fire Postecoglou was a "unanimous decision of the board."

At the same time, frequent injuries have also become an important factor in Tottenham's struggles this season. Many main players including Christian Romero, Van der Ven, Udoki, goalkeeper Vicario have suffered multiple injuries, seriously weakening the depth of the lineup.

Despite this, Postecoglou said in a statement that he was "proud" of his coaching record and believed he had "accomplished a task that many believed was impossible."
