On September 20 , the Miami Heat officially announced that All-Star guard Tyler Herro underwent surgery for a left ankle and foot problem and is expected to miss approximately eight weeks. This means he will be unable to join the team in the early stages of the new season and will not be able to return until mid-November at the earliest.

The surgery was performed at the Miami Doctors Hospital Surgical Center by orthopedic surgeon Thomas San Giovanni, with assistance from Heat team doctors Celesnick and Lebois. According to the Heat, the procedure primarily addressed Herro's long-standing posterior ankle impingement syndrome, an injury that worsened during offseason training and ultimately necessitated surgery.

Last season, Herro had the best season of his career, averaging 23.9 points and 5.5 assists per game on 47.2% shooting , all career highs. He earned his first All-Star selection and won the Three-Point Contest, scoring 40+ points three times in 77 appearances , demonstrating his ability as a top-tier scorer.

However, injuries have always been a problem for Herro. In each of his first four seasons, he missed at least 15 games, and in the 2023-24 season, he missed 40 games due to injury. This surgery has once again raised concerns about his long-term health.
