Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is in the midst of a contract negotiation. As a restricted free agent, the 22-year-old hopes to remain with the Golden State Warriors for the rest of his career, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on the length and control of the contract.
Kuminga's agent, Aaron Turner, said in a recent interview: "The Golden State Warriors are the team that selected him, and he certainly hopes to stay with one team for his entire life. He wants to be the core and wants a bigger role. It's no secret. He is willing to return and is open to it."
According to reporters, the three contracts currently offered by the Golden State Warriors are: three years for $75.2 million (team option for the third year), two years for $45 million (team option for the second year), and three years for $54 million (no option).
Last summer, Kuminga's team proposed a three-year, $82 million contract with a player option, but the Golden State Warriors remained reserved because they wanted to clear salary space after the 2026-27 season.
The current impasse stems from the Golden State Warriors' insistence on retaining control of the 2027-28 season, while Kuminga prefers to take the initiative. Turner revealed, "There's a good chance he'll be traded before the mid-season trade deadline."
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Kuminga's performance last season still added to his already impressive record. He averaged 15.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game during the regular season. In the second round of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he stepped up while Curry was sidelined due to injury, averaging 24.3 points in four consecutive games, showcasing his immense potential and explosiveness.
